Dhaulagiri Region is in the western part of Nepal, probably one of the best areas for trekking in Nepal, because there are more than fifteen magnificent 7000m peaks in a land of dramatic contrast. Although trekking off the main paths is not possible, you do need a sense of adventure and an ability to deal with the unexpected. You will be immensely rewarded.

Dhaulagiri means “White Mountain”. Though many mountains in the world have names which translate to White Mountain, this is without a doubt the most astonishing one.

The trek to Dhaulagiri offers unparalleled and impressive scenery. There are also some very interesting, indigenous people in this area. Following the rivers upstream, we see ferns, juniper, forests of oak and many other deciduous trees. Mountainsides of rhododendron blaze with colour in the spring, and other flowers are abundant on the trail. We find tiny alpine flowers even on high mountain passes. The popular high mountain passes include French Pass (5360m) and Dhampus Pass (5250m/ 17,220ft). These pass offer a great experience for those trekkers who have an excellent physical condition.
