OVERVIEW


The trek reaching the maximum altitude of 3800m (12,464 ft) and can be completed by anybody with a moderate level of fitness. Continuing along the Kali Gandaki River Gorge, marvel at the splendid peaks of Annapurna-I and Dhaulagiri both of which reach heights in excess of 8000m (26,240 ft). Explore the hundreds of years old monastery, caves, local tribes and scenic beauties of the different landscapes. Make an adventure starting from world’s deepest gorge Kali Gandaki Region into world’s highest regions passing through an almost treeless barren landscape, a steep rocky trail up and down hill and panoramic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and several other peaks.

The initial days of the trek through the Annapurna region ascends through rice terraces and villages inhabited by the indigenous people, mostly the Gurungs. The trek gets interesting in Tatopani where you will have the opportunity to relax in natural hot springs! Then the trek passes through Jomsom and Kagbeni, the entry point of upper Mustang Region. The grandeur of the Dhaulagiri Glacier is on show a little further up along with the first glimpse of the windy Tibetan Plateau on the way to the holy Hindu pilgrimage site of Muktinath (3800m/12,464 ft). The sacred temple has 108 waterfalls that resemble water flowing from taps and mysterious natural gas fires that boggle the mind. From here it is downhill to Jomsom village on the Tibetan Plateau where you can look around at the gateway to the “Forbidden Kingdom of Mustang”, and get a glimpse of the ancient traditions still in practice. This is a good trek if you wish to avoid high altitudes.


 

Day 01 Arrival in Kathmandu
Arrival in Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, a representative from Matterhorn Treks & Expedition will transfer to your hotel, we will brief about your trip activities. You’ll have rest of the day at leisure.

Day 02 Kathmandu Sightseeing
Sightseeing in Some of landmarks that are the World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of (Pashupati Nath), the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhu Nath) and Buddhists shrine (Bouddha Nath). You can also make your last minute buying of personal items and preparation for the next day.

Day 03 Fly to Pokhara
After breakfast, we will drive to the airport for a flight to Pokhara, 25 mins. Flight to Pokhara is spectacular with Himalayan view all along its route. You can enjoy the ambiance in the natural setting with impending Himalayas in a distance. Walk along the Phewa Lake or go boating in the evening.

Day 04 Pokhara – Jomsom (2750 m) Trek to Kagbeni (2800 m), 4 hours
Early in the morning, we drive to the airport where we will board a flight to Jomsom which  is situated at a height of 2,720 meters. From here, we go on a three hour trek to Kagbeni at 2,800 meters,  Kagbeni is considered a green oasis in the middle of a desert, a junction on the ancient Trans-Himalayan trade route and the gateway to the restricted region of Upper Mustang.

Day 05 Kagbeni Trek to Muktinath (3800 m), walking time 5 hours
Our trek on day four starts with a three hour trail which ascends initially through barren terrain, to reach Jharkot (3550 meters). Jharkot is a quiet medieval village with narrow alleys lined with ancient, crumbling houses. From here, we trek to Muktinath which is nearly two hours away. The trail rises sharply through farmlands and clusters of Poplar trees right up to Muktinath.

Day 06 Rest Day at Muktinath
After breakfast, we visit Muktinath Temple, a popular pilgrimage site for Buddhists and Hindus in Nepal. Behind the main temple, you will find 108 ICY COLD water spouts, where it is believed that one can be cleansed of their sins! You may also choose to go hiking along the route beyond the temple in order to enjoy some stunning views of the mountain.

Day 07 Muktinath to Jomsom via Lupra, walking time 6 hours
Today, we trek for about five hours to reach Lupra at 2,790 meters. For the first part of the trek, we travel along the trail towards Jomsom. Half-way along the route, we veer eastwards and off the main trail. We will cross a small wooden bridge across the Panda Khola stream. Later, we enter the village of Lupra, one of the oldest settlements in the region. You can visit the Lupra monastery, which was founded in the 12th century by Lupragpa, a famous Bon master. (Bon is the ancient shamanist faith, which was later incorporated into mainstream Tibetan Buddhism).We then rejoins the main trail and hike till Jomsom.

Day 08 Flight from Jomsom to Pokhara (820 m)
This morning we pack our bags and get ready for the exciting mountain scenic flight to Pokhara. The flight transit through between two high peaks Mt. Annapurna (8,091 m/26,538 ft) and Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167 m/26,788 ft) and give us a wonderful opportunity to enjoy with best views of surrounding Annapurna & Dhaulagiri Himalayan range. We have full day at Pokhara to enjoy with its natural side in Pokhara.

Day 09 Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu (1,300 m)
Morning we will drive by regular tourist bus  through the scenic countryside and en route will stop for breakfast & lunch. It takes 7 hours back to Kathmandu. On arrival at Kathmandu guide will transfer to the hotel and rest of the day relax or explore the surrounding areas.

Day 10 Kathmandu
This pleasant day you may have full day at leisure at your own or can be extends your extra trip with us on additional cost or time to explore the Thamel area for last day shopping and evening Matterhorn Treks & Expedition will take you for Farewell dinner.

Day 11 Departure from Kathmandu
Matterhorn Treks & Expedition will transferred to the International Airport for your departure flight to your on wards destination.
